Open Session - come play (or listen to!) Celtic music at the brewery.
Anyone with the ability to play a traditional instrument and who knows a tune or two is welcome to join.
Unlike a 'jam' session in other musical genres, in Irish sessions there is a body of music that is played and you can go anywhere in the world and there will be someone who has a few tunes in common with you; the melody is not ad hoc as in jazz, for example.
In the Irish tradition, the melody is a tune played on an instrument and a song is what you sing.
An Irish session is more of a musical conversation than a performance. We sit in a circle so we can hear and see each other to take cues for changing tunes, etc.
